Omega Structural is currently working on the Lantana / Rosswood retaining wall project, involving an early-1900s brick retaining wall that has deteriorated and partially collapsed over time. The surrounding area has documented historic significance, including the nearby Charles H. Greenshaw Residence, a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument associated with Lantana Drive and Rosswood Terrace. Because of that historic context, this project requires more than a standard retaining wall repair. The goal is not only to restore structural stability, but also to preserve the original character of the property and the surrounding time period.
Although the physical repair itself is relatively straightforward, the planning process requires careful paperwork, review, and coordination. The exterior appearance of the wall cannot simply be changed or modernized, so Omega Structural is approaching the restoration with respect for the historic restrictions and architectural character of the site. Our team is carefully reviewing the existing brick condition, planning the repair method, and coordinating the work so the final result supports both structural safety and historic preservation.
Projects with historical value take time, and Omega Structural believes that time is part of doing the work correctly. Older brick retaining walls, especially those tied to early Los Angeles hillside neighborhoods, should not be rushed or replaced without consideration for their original appearance.
